Fishers of Men

After reading the beginning of Mark, when he records Jesus calling His first disciples, I was excited to share this post. This picture above is not really related , except it does conjure the maritime and fishing setting! Mark records, "As Jesus walked beside the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 'Come follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.' At once they left their nets and followed him" (Mark 1:16-18). This story shows so much about obedience and how the disciples were so excited to follow Jesus that they left what they were doing right away. Also, it shows trust! And Jesus put on my heart today that it was also about our occupation! Jesus said such a cool line. He was the first to say this line, and it is so often quoted today. Beyond that, Jesus was speaking to them in a way that they would understand. They were to become fishers of men! As, should we, but perhaps, Jesus could have said to us if we were business men, "Come and have your business to tell people of my love for them!" Or instead, "Come and have your art be for me." In anything that we do, it should be for God! So, we should be willing to drop our lines to follow him. In seeking Him though, He will gladly use our gifts that he gives us. How exciting! God Bless, and let us have fun using our gifts for Him!
